Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamin Floyd
Hi Jamin, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started in the swimming pool industry by being the first hire for a franchise pool company that opened a new location in our area. I started at the bottom doing weekly cleanings of residential pools and treating the water chemistry. As the business grew and I received more training from Corporate, I started quickly progressing in the business to doing service calls for equipment installation and repair. I rapidly transitioned from that to building vinyl liner pools and then on to be the general manager of company. The owner was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and lost his fight after a year and a half. At that point the corporate office closed the location to look for a new franchise owner. Being the only employee at the beginning of an owner/ operator business, I helped to build a very successful business for him and then due to one of life’s tragedies I was now unemployed while having lost someone that became a best friend. It was at this point that I decided to start my own company and build a brand and business for myself.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
With being an entrepreneur and starting your own business, there will always be some struggles. There’s always the stress when you start of if you will be able to make it, then as the business starts make it the stress turns into am I going to be able to keep up. My start up of Neptune Pools of Greenville, LLC was fairly smooth. I knew how many monthly maintenance accounts I would need to be able to start a successful business, and I was able to reach that number in a relatively short time frame. The struggles in business started to come about a year into operations when at that point we had almost doubled our clientele base. The struggle became to expand and continue to grow, or to sustain where I had gotten. This is the question that as a small business, we ask ourselves every day.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Neptune Pools of Greenville, LLC is a swimming pool maintenance company in Greenville South Carolina. We specialize in weekly cleanings and chemical treatments of both residential and commercial swimming pools. Our process and procedures ensure that there is a repeatable formula which maintains consistency from week to week. We also specialize in vinyl liner replacements to make old pools look new again. What sets Neptune Pools of Greenville, LLC apart from other companies in our area is the approach that I have created when I started the company. We treat every pool, every backyard, as if it were our own. It is our privilege to maintain and care for your back yard oasis allowing you the ability to enjoy your pool at your leisure without the hassle of the work required to keep it up.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Being that our primary job is maintaining the water chemistry of swimming pools, we are listed as an essential business due to this water sanitation. What we did see as a result of Covid-19 and the lock downs that were imposed was an increase in swimming pool projects and service needs as people were unable to travel for vacations. With many manufacturing places having to close or cut back production due to staffing regulations imposed, it took only a short amount of time to create a very short supply in equipment and chemicals. Through the covid crisis, we learned to revamp the way we calculated the inventory on hand need as well as alternative means of water sanitization beyond the standards of chlorine and salt systems.
