Today we’d like to introduce you to Antoinette Cain
Antoinette, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Antoinette Cain, born in Paterson NJ, raised in Timmonsville SC, is a Black art and fashion enthusiast and creator of the fashion and lifestyle blog Trulycharmedlife.com. Established in 2014, Trulycharmedlife began as Antoinette’s online journal highlighting her experiences as an aspiring plus-size model. The blog has evolved into a multimedia fashion and lifestyle platform covering a range of topics from local art and fashion events to the latest global fashion trends.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I became a mom at 19 years old. My whole adult life has been focused on being the best mom to my son and daughter (now ages 20 and 17). As my children got older, I began to experience an identity crisis of sorts. As my children participated in extra curricular activities and other things as they became more independent, I found myself with more time on my hands. Initially, I had no idea what to do with it. I finally decided, in 2014, that it was time for me to pursue my dreams. I started my blog and began to pursue plus-size modeling.I’ve always taught my children to pursue their goals. I decided that it was now time for me to show them what that means by being an example.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
For the past ten years I’ve juggled the responsibilities of a demanding career with the federal government along with feeding my passion for creativity and fashion by building the fashion and lifestyle platform Trulycharmedlife.
I’ve always been a creative thinker, but being a small business owner in the fashion arena has truly sharpened my creative thinking. You have to be able to develop a unique identity and set yourself apart in these fashion streets. This requires a continuous flow of ideas. My idea of success, as a blogger, is seeing readers and followers return to my platform to enjoy new content.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
From Facebook groups to virtual networking events, social media presents so many formal and informal opportunities to connect with like-minded people. Make the most of your online connections. There are a number of supporters and others who have been vital to the growth of my platform, some of whom I have never met in person. I obtained my most recent opportunity solely through the power of social media. I have always had a love for promoting the businesses of others and offering business marketing advice. In February, I was selected to serve as the Chief Marketing Officer for Pee Dee Fashion Week. It’s been an amazing experience.
