Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Young
Hi Courtney, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hey! I’m Courtney Young, a Charleston, South Carolina native and the founder and head designer of Young Mermaids.
I’ve been sewing since I was 14 and pursued my Apparel Design degree at Auburn University, graduating in 2019. Over the past two years, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to work with Emily Kotarski Bespoke Bridal, where I trained under Emily and gained invaluable experience serving hundreds of brides in the Lowcountry. I’m deeply grateful to Emily for being such a powerful mentor during this pivotal time in my career.
My passion for working closely with brides has fueled my desire to take my creative vision further. In 2024, I took the leap to launch my own bridal brand, Young Mermaids. We specialize in creating bridal looks that make every bride feel one-of-a-kind, confident, and beautiful on her special day
Our motto, “Make Waves on Your Big Day,” embodies our dedication to crafting unforgettable designs. I’m thrilled to finally introduce my own line of nontraditional bridal wear and can’t wait to help more brides make waves on their big day!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Starting Young Mermaids has been an exciting journey with its own set of challenges, particularly in making a name for myself in the bridal industry. As I work on my first full collection and prepare for a fashion show, I’m focused on getting my brand out there and establishing a presence. As a young designer, starting out, It’s a process, but I’m thrilled to be creating standout designs that cater to brides seeking something unique.

At Young Mermaids, I specialize in bespoke coastal bridal wear, designing classic silhouettes with elegant details that provide a feminine touch. I find great pleasure in blending timeless styles with unique accents that capture the essence of the Lowcountry. My aim is to create gowns that are both graceful and distinct, making every bride feel uniquely beautiful on her special day.

Young Mermaids is thrilled to make a splash in the bridal industry with our unique and memorable designs. We look forward to expanding our distribution for next year and bringing our one-of-a-kind gowns to brides throughout the Lowcountry. Our aim is to leave a lasting impression in the bridal market and ensure that more brides can experience the distinctive elegance of Young Mermaids on their special day.
