Today we’d like to introduce you to LeAnne Carswell
Hi LeAnne, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In 1995, I was 21, newly married with my paralegal degree and in a new town in Melbourne, FL. Not knowing anyone, I took a job as an assistant to a Realtor. In the first week she told me I needed to be licensed and sent me to school. For the next 3 years I did everything from assistant, Listing Coordinator, Pending Coordinator and even negotiated contracts for the broker. I moved home in 1998 and went to work with Top Guns Realty on Hwy 11 in Landrum. In 2003, Keller Williams came to SC and I joined them. In 2011, I decided to become my own broker and have control over what I was required to pay for. From about 2000, I have had an assistant. In 2003, I added my first agent and now we have 15 agents, 5 staff + myself. I currently on the hunt for great talent and would love to see the team grow to about 25 agents. Its crazy to think I am 29 years into this business.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In 2000 I was diagnosed the multiple sclerosis when I woke up one day and half my face looked like I had a stroke. At the time I didn’t have insurance, but was fortunate enough to get on a drug study that paid for all my medication and care. I remember thinking that I needed to work as fast and hard as I could while I was able, because I didn’t want to be eating cat food when I got old.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
When I was a single agent, I routinely closed 40 properties a year. Over the years that number has gone up with the team closing 299 transactions for a total of $72.5M in 2022. I no longer work the buyer side of transactions, but we have always relied on the MLS to find the perfect home. In times like these, we have to get creative by mailing out letters to owners to see if they know anyone in the neighborhood that would be open to an offer. You always look on Facebook Marketplace, dig for FSBO’s and build it when you need too.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I guess that I have MS. Once I learned the things I could and couldn’t do with my MS, I just had to live in those boundaries. So I can’t do things that would cause me to get overheated as it will aggravate my MS.
