Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Clements
Jessica, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have loved art and creating all of my life. Any art class I could take while in school, I did. I wanted to be a graphic artist when I started college at 18 but life tends to get in the way so I ended up dropping out. As a child/teen, I mainly created pencil, chalk and pastel drawings. While in highschool, I had a teacher that approached me to buy one of my drawings which became my 1st piece sold. It was a chalk drawing of apples. As an adult, I continued with pencil drawing but also added in new mediums such as water color painting, sewing and stained glass art. In my early 40s I tried out quilling for the 1st time and found it to be fun but very tedious for me. I knew I wanted to find the medium that speaks to me so being a maker on a small canvas is what I found that I enjoy the most using vinyl, resin, and acrylic paint. The name ArtMakerJess is what I go by for this reason because I am a multi-medium artist. What I enjoy making the most are ornaments, car charms, and themed earrings.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been as smooth as I would have liked because there are so many other things that needed to be prioritized. I raised two wonderful children with the help of their father and step-father and I have worked full-time in the healthcare industry.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I started in medical administration but moved into teaching for a number of years at a career-focused college. I decided to change my career path almost 3 years ago and now work as a pharmacy technician for Delta Pharmacy.
I am most proud of overcoming insecurities to find out who I was meant to be and the things I have achieved along the way.
I am not sure what sets me apart from others. I view myself as an average woman that loves her children, husband, and creating.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I am a loner and enjoy creating alone.
However, I took a step outside of my comfort zone and answered an ad looking for artisans in the area. Shannon, the owner of Vintiques Artisan Market, allowed me to set up my small shop so I am putting my art out there with her help.
Shannon, along with my friends and family, have all encouraged me to continue creating. I recently got to work on Christmas in July ornaments live from Vintiques. I was nervous and anxious but enjoyed showing what I love to do.
My husband Joe, along with my children Daisy and Eli, are my biggest supporters in life. I wouldn’t be where I am without them.
