Today we’d like to introduce you to Lanita Bolden
Hi Lanita, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born in Greenville SC (Greenville County) to the late Walter Atkins Sr and Bennie Mae Gary Campbell. I have 5 siblings. I attended the Greenville County School System and Greenville Technical College receiving an Associate Degree in Business Management.
I married the late Gerard Bolden in May 1986. He was the son of David and Ida Mae Redmond Bolden. To our union was born 3 sons (Devin, Javion, & Travis). I also have 5 grandsons.
I am currently a 39 year employee of Ricoh USA as a Senior Field Specialist.
In November of 2009, my family’s life changed dramatically with the unexpected passing of Gerard. He was a 20+ year employee of Suitt Construction Company and the owner of Picky People Janitorial Service.
Gerard was the type of person that loved to help others. He would help those he knew and strangers that he would encounter along the way by taking them shopping or giving them the coat off his back. Gerard was also dyslexic. He stressed to our sons about learning and getting a college education. We thought no other way to honor him than to assist others struggling financially with their college education. Thus we established the GMAN Scholarship Foundation in his honor.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When Gerard became ill in 2005, he could no longer work. Going from a two income household to one income with 3 sons was quite challenging. Then with his passing, the minimal income he did receive was completely gone. But, with my faith in God, who has carried me all the way, I have seen his handywork in my life.
All of our sons graduated high school . They were able to attend some college. One was able to graduate with a 4-year degree.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?

My passion is my foundation. The GMAN Scholarship Foundation I started in honor of my late husband Gerard Bolden.
The G-Man Scholarship Foundation was established in memory of Gerard Bolden, who passed away in November 2009.
As a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, G-Man Scholarship is dedicated to aiding students with a demonstrated financial need as they pursue higher education at 2-year or 4-year institutions.
Our mission is to empower students in achieving their dreams of a college education
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I would characterize myself as an introvert. I was alone most of the time growing up – concentrating on my studies. I loved and love learning, reading, math, and singing.
