Life & Work with Aaron Gore of Fort Mill

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Gore

Hi Aaron, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was working for TJX Companies in Enterprise Change and Release Management in my early 20s, prior to being laid off. I realized that I never wanted to work in a corporate role such as that again, but wasn’t clear on what I would actually do instead.

I was a professional wrestler at the time, and from that learned how to talk and elicit a response in people. I started to put that to work in sales, first in insurance, then in office supplies, but I wanted to do something that I was passionate about. I loved craft beer, and noticed an opening on Craigslist to run sales for Finch Beer Company in Rhode Island. I interviewed and was given the job, and my career in beer began there.

From there I started running the entire Northeast for Finch, before moving down to the Carolinas. I began running the sales departments for breweries, then operations, and then struck out on my own as a full time business consultant, running bars and restaurants on the side while I grew my business. By the end of 6 years, I had consulted for more than 65 breweries and cideries on three continents, and had grown to be considered one of the top experts on the craft beer industry in the country.

I then started a company called Bevana Partners, licensing products from small breweries and managing the scaled production, warehousing, distribution and sales for them as they grew. When I left that venture, Arryved reached out to me immediately. A company building software solutions for the brewing industry, they wanted to leverage my expertise as they grew into a more mature organization. Now, I manage integrations, partnerships, and events for them, as well as advising the senior leadership on the needs and opportunities within the industry

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’ve had both triumphs and tragedies over the course of my career. Losing my job at TJX right after buying our first house was a particular blow. And Bevana Partners went into Chapter 11 bankruptcy after a finance scandal I discovered on behalf of one of my co-founders. Those were setbacks, but I’ve continued to find new ways to drive value and make an impact for a small industry, filled with passionate people

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Outside of my role at Arryved, I am most well know for my Facebook feed, of all things. Years ago, my incredible wife stopped me during a story to tell me “Sweetheart, I love you, but I really don’t care about all of this beer industry stuff. Can’t you just go tell your friends on the internet?”

So that’d exactly what I did. I began to aggregate and share news from literally dozens of sources across craft beverage. In time, this has built me thousands of followers across the industry, and even Brewbound, the largest industry publication, has referred to me as the “AP Newswire” of the craft beer industry, and uses me to stay current.

I also run the Court Shoes Only charitable beer collaboration to raise money for ACEing Autism, c-founded the Evergreen Brewing Initiative to provide support and resources for women and non-binary homebrewers, am the Secretary of the Board for the upcoming American Craft Beer Hall of Fame, and am on both the Seminar and the DEI Marketing and Communications subcommittees for the nation Brewers Association

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
I learn that flexibility and a willingness to give before asking to take are critical for maintain the proverbial “village” that it takes to sustain business and opportunity in a modern industry
