Community Highlights: Meet Christine Martinez of Christine’s Petite Sweets

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christine Martinez

Hi Christine, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
As a woman of Faith, US Army Veteran, proud mother of two, and a loving wife. My business started with inspiration from my mother’s cheesecake recipe created over 50 years ago. At age 20, my mother passed away. After making the recipe for 15 years on my own, my business was created after an intense desire to share my mother’s cheesecake recipe with people outside of my family. I felt as though it would make a great business not only because of the potential to be profitable, but I just knew that the love baked into each cheesecake had the power to make people smile. My business has brought so much joy into my life and every time I am making a fresh batch it helps me remember my mother like she was right next to me again.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been easy to start this business. Bakeries just aren’t the best business to get into, especially if the local customer doesn’t know you. I started in the Icehouse Amphitheater, Saturday Market in Lexington and had to be very vocal with what I offered. You can’t just let cheesecake sit out in the sun all day as people walk by my booth all they see is an empty table and a sign. Once my customers started listening and looking, it helped build sales, that is key to growth, repeat customers and word of mouth. I always want to ensure I have a quality product customers will come back for.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Christine’s Petite Sweets?

I enjoy interacting with new and repeat customers, those who love my sweets already and those who have yet to try them. This city is more then just a town to me, my customers my regulars and new ones I meet whether they just talk to me or they purchase my cheesecakes are my family. They make me want to do more, and create more.

Since starting the business I have added other sweet treats, like pineapple upside down cake, lemon pound cake, bread pudding, cinnamon rolls, and beignets.

I am most proud of the interactions with my customer’s, I love seeing their reaction when they try my sweets for the first time, I love reading the positive reviews they leave about the business, and I mostly love when they become regular customers, and we start to bond over something as humble as a cheesecake. I am proud of this business and I feel it deep down in my soul that my mother is proud as well. As Christine’s Petites Sweets expands and we offer more sweet treats, we will continue to serve our customers by providing quality smile producing products at a reasonable price. Our focus will always be on making the best sweet treat you’ve ever tasted. I love seeing the smiles or hearing the joy my customers have when they’ve found their flavor!

You can find me in several locations around Lexington, SC. Most locations can be found on my website, including the first location that started my business NYButcher Lexington.

I do custom orders, with a variety of flavors in small minis, or large cheesecakes to share, doing events and parties for you and your guests to enjoy makes me smile.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
