Life & Work with Naylah Campechano of Simpsonville, SC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Naylah Campechano

Hi Naylah, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hello, I am Naylah and I was born in New Jersey and moved to SC back in 2014. I am Latina, half Dominican and half Peruvian. I will be a sophomore student at Wade Hampton High School this August and will be 15 years old in a few days on June 24th. My passion for music started super early in life when I was four, but I started to take professional vocal and piano lessons when I was 9. I am a singer/songwriter with 5 singles on all music platforms. I also started taking songwriting lessons last year! I have been doing theater since I was 12 at Greenville Theater, Younts Theater, Greer Theater of Arts, and Peace Center. I had the amazing opportunity to perform at the Apollo Theater in New York back in March 2024 and sang the National Anthem for Clemson University, Greenville Triumph, Greenville Drive, Greer Freedom Blast, and Wade Hampton High School. My dream when I finish High School is to go to Berkeley College of Music in Massachusetts so I can become a female Music Producer and master my songwriting. I was recently recognized as 1st place in the State of South Carolina high school student for Music Composition with my own original song! I love to sing Pop, R&B, Jazz, and Christian songs. My dream is to keep working hard so one day I can win a Grammy and help children around the world who are in need! I have won singing competitions in the last 2 years like Gathers Got Talent, Clinton Got Talent, Wade Hampton HS talent show, Vocal Star in Los Angeles, and Best Rising Star of the year 2023. Also, two of my new singles are coming out soon this year on all music platforms. I feel blessed, thankful, and grateful to my parents and God. It has been such an amazing journey full of hard work, dedication, and pursuing what I love. To all the younger generation, I want to tell them that if you have a dream, go for it, work hard, and trust the Lord in everything and every process. Hard work will take you far if you are consistent.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing is ever easy in life; it takes a lot of hard work, dedication, and patience. Sometimes, there are days when I am not emotionally okay, but I always remember to trust the process and keep working hard for my future. I am a high school student, and I put a lot of pressure on myself when it comes to school because in order to maintain an outstanding GPA, you have to work hard. Knowing that I have singing events, invitations, and rehearsals for theater outside of school adds a lot to my plate. Not every day is fantastic because as a youth, you go through emotions, stress, and all that! But my mom is always there pushing me and keeping me awake, and she helps me handle my schedule, which is a great help for someone my age. Plus, I always ask God for strength. He never fails me; he is perfect!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a singer/songwriter and this has been my passion since I was a little girl. I have learned so much in these years and I will never stop the need and desire to learn more! I also play the piano and I’m trying to improve at it every day. I’m known for singing a lot in my city and also for doing theater! I love to stay busy all the time!! I am most proud of how my work ethic has improved and how each day I have higher expectations for myself. I hope that one day I am able to share these things with many people in the future!

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I wouldn’t call it luck, my whole life I’ve walked with the Lord and he has always been there for me. I believe that bad moments are just a part of life and we all learn to get through them. A bad experience isn’t bad luck it’s just a lesson that we learn from.
