Today we’d like to introduce you to Vivian Kimberly Peterson
Hi Vivian Kimberly , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hi, started cooking at the age of 9 with my mom in the kitchen, when I became an adult I would cook different dishes for my family and friends. Then I started selling dinners and treats from my home and it was pretty successful. I decided to start a catering business and I named it Chanel’s gullah cuisine, kitchen, and catering. I got laid off from my job so I came up with the idea to open a food truck so I started building my food truck in June 20 20 and I opened it up in August 20 20. It’s been five years since I opened my food truck and six years of catering. I am a gullah caterer out of Charleston South Carolina.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a smooth road I can honestly say, I’ve met a lot of people along the way customers that turn into friends, other chefs that has turned into friends
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in Gullah cuisine food, I am known for my Lowcountry red rice. I cater food to a lot a lot of corporate companies, a lot of festivals on the food truck.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most lesson I have the most important lesson I have learned a long time along the way is have an open mind, everyone is not your customer and you’re going to have some good days and you’re gonna have some bad days, but never give up you can slow down, but never quit!
