Today we’d like to introduce you to Meghan Diehl.
Hi Meghan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I first stumbled across Punkpost on Instagram during the spring of 2020 and was overjoyed to find a company with such a fun concept. It was made for people just like me! I immediately used the service to send a birthday card with confetti to a relative! Right after that, I applied to be a handwriting artist. I followed up persistently (sorry, Lex!) and finally joined the team in the Fall of 2021.
Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
I have always been a doodler and loved drawing fun bubble letters on every folder and textbook cover as a kid. That eventually led to studying interior design in college, and I later found myself in a full-time event planning role where I could let my creativity run wild. I went above and beyond to hand letter chalkboards for every private and corporate event, welcoming guests to the venue. I pushed myself to learn different lettering styles to draw menu boards, greeting cards, large-scale chalkboards + window displays, and more. I never expected to end up with several other creative endeavors, but I am where I’m supposed to be. My only struggle now is not having enough time in the day and occasionally needing to ice + rest my hand.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might need to be more familiar with what you do, what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m beyond proud to be able to represent the Punkpost brand in the Greenville, South Carolina, area. There are so many incredibly talented people on the Punkpost team spread out around the country, and it is so fun to be able to send cards near and far. I keep a map of the US in my studio and color in each state I check off (only 5 more for 2024!). It’s super cool to mail them to people in my city, and it’s equally fun to slap an international stamp on an envelope, knowing my artwork is going across the pond! With an extensive hospitality background, one of my strengths has always been to get to know my clients so I can tailor each assignment to them. With Punkpost cards, customers can add details about the recipient and their personalized message. Having notes like, “favorite color is blue, loves roses and coffee,” is all it takes to design a gorgeous card that the recipient can keep forever.
What matters most to you? Why?
It’s hard to describe how it feels to learn so many minute details about strangers through their often brief messages, but it’s a rare glimpse into someone else’s life. Most cards we write at Punkpost are for birthdays or celebrations, but we also write some more somber messages, especially sympathy cards. While it can be a little difficult to switch up my usual “fun” writing style to a more formal note, it gives me a moment to think about how so many people worldwide are going through a range of emotions, all on a seemingly ordinary day. Being a small part of these moments throughout life’s milestones is an absolute honor.
