Rising Stars: Meet Becky Call of Landrum

Today we’d like to introduce you to Becky Call.

Becky Call

Hi Becky, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
In 2016, I went through a separation & divorce that left me with no money, no job, no friends, and nowhere to go. I went through a tremendous journey of trial and error, working hard, returning to college, and moving across the country several times to end up in Landrum, SC, in 2019. I’ve had a passion for real estate for years before becoming an agent. When the pandemic hit, I was forced to go inward and decide what my dreams were and where my passion lay. I decided to chase my dreams and went to real estate school in 2020. I got licensed in 2021 and had a slow start. In 2021, I was the only agent in the world that sold only 1 home. I was still working as a server in a restaurant and doing marketing work for my dad’s farm equipment dealership. In July of 2022, I decided to give real estate my all. I quit both of my other jobs and dove head first. I closed 11 properties in 2022. In 2023, I pushed past the glass ceiling of my mind, worked harder than I’ve ever worked, became even more intentional in my relationships, closed 28 properties, including my first home purchase, and became a top producer in my area, outproducing over 95% of other agents. If I could go back to the version of myself in 2016 who was terrified of what the future holds, I would hug her tightly and tell her how beautiful our future is, how real estate has not only changed our lives, but we have been able to change so many other people’s lives around us. We’ve helped people break generational curses, rekindle marriages, bring babies home, build lifelong friendships, and help other agents build wealth. This has been my life’s most incredible journey, and I cannot wait to see what 2024 brings!

Please talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned. Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Was this without challenges? Not! I was terrified to leap into real estate full-time. I worked 2 other jobs while first starting. I will never forget the stress of being in real estate in 2021, serving tables, and having buyers wanting to view properties. If we didn’t see it that hour, it went under contract. It was impossible. I joined a team in 2022 that let me go 5 months later, saying I was too independent to be on their team. It broke my heart. I didn’t let it deter me – I stayed the course, and my career took off. I have screwed up, made a fool of myself, forgotten things, and stumbled over my words. But each mess-up has made me such a better agent – to the point that I have taught a room full of long-time producer classes, gained a ton of confidence, and become one of the top producing agents in my area in a very short time.

I appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in the 20% no one else does, lol! There is a running joke: if 80% of people work the middle of a bell graph, I find the 10% of outliers on either side. I have sold wedding venues, lake properties, land, mountain properties, luxury properties, and anything you can think of out of the norm. Recently, I’ve taken a position as the business development executive and land acquisition specialist for The Barndo Co. We, the fastest-growing barndominium building company in the country. I still run my residential resale business, but I am excited to continue growing & learning. You can say my specialty is working the side of the business other people are too afraid to try.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Put yourself out there! I attended every class at my Keller Williams office, participated in every networking event and local association meeting, and made time to build relationships intentionally. I met with lenders for lunch, other realtors, and everyone in my sphere. It can be exhausting, but it is worth it! The most important part of our business is building relationships. As a new agent, I recommend reaching out and building relationships with seasoned agents, lenders, attorneys, inspectors, etc. – they are much more willing to help you if they know who you are!
