Meet Molly Hensley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Molly Hensley.

Hi Molly, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I have always been creative and have a love for working with children. I begin my career as an elementary school teacher in the Upstate of South Carolina while my husband attended Clemson. After he graduated, we moved to Georgia and after having my first child, I left teaching to be home with him.

We purchased a camera so I could document our memories, and that is where my love of photography began. I would share my photos of him online, and pretty soon that lead to families reaching out and asking me to photograph their children and that was when my business was born.

While my business is known for its timeless, bright, and joy-filled images, I also worked hard to create a stress-free experience to make the whole process enjoyable. My background in education and working with children truly prepared me to really make children feel at ease so their personalities come through in their portraits.

I photographed families, newborns, and small businesses in the Atlanta area for over 8 years until my husband’s job brought our family back to Easley, South Carolina in 2022. I am so excited to be back here and serve the Upstate.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of the struggles along the way was learning to stay in my own lane. There are so many talented photographers and artists out there, and in this world of social media, it’s so easy to see the work of others and compare yourself I learned that I serve myself and my clients best by being me.

This way I can consistently present my own style and clients can know exactly what to expect when they hire me. It’s definitely a challenge to not compare myself to other photographers, but ultimately I know the best way to serve my clients is by spending my time serving them instead of wasting it on the comparison game.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am known for my timeless, bright, joy-filled images. I specialize in photographing families and newborns on location. Most family sessions are conducted outside, but my newborn sessions are done in the home and nursery of my clients. This creates one-of-a-kind newborn photos that document families in their own space.

My greatest honor is getting the opportunity to watch and document babies grow and change from birth through their first year through my membership packages. Beyond the images, one of the most important parts of my work is making the entire portrait process easy and enjoyable. As a former teacher and mother of three, my background uniquely prepared me to work with children making sessions fun and relaxing for both children and their parents.

What do you think about happiness?
The relationships I build with my clients are what truly makes me happy! Most of my clients are repeat clients, sometimes that’s because I’m documenting their baby’s milestones from newborn to the first year, and sometimes it’s families that schedule yearly portraits with me.

I’m able to truly get to know my family, and it allows me to serve them even better. The children recognize me and look forward to photoing sessions because they know it will be fun, and that there are always little surprises in my camera bag for them. I’ve also loved building strong relationships with other mothers. I love supporting them in their motherhood journey.

Many of the mothers I photograph are also small business owners, and our strong relationships have to lead to me photographing their small businesses for their marketing. So overall the strong relationships are the part that brings me the greatest joy!
