Meet Kaelyn Tweed of Halo Salon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaelyn Tweed.

Hi Kaelyn, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey in the beauty industry really started with a love for making people feel good about themselves. I’ve been behind the chair for about 15 years, and over time, I realized that doing hair was about so much more than just the hair—it was about building relationships and earning people’s trust.

I opened Halo Salon in 2018, and what started as a vision for a salon has grown into something much bigger than I originally imagined. We spent years in downtown Summerville before moving into our new location on Dorchester Road, where we’ve been able to grow our team, expand our services, and even add a boutique.

Owning a business has definitely come with a lot of learning, growing, and changing along the way. As I’ve grown as a stylist and a business owner, my focus has shifted from simply building my own clientele to building a strong team, mentoring other stylists, and creating a salon where both our clients and our stylists feel valued.

Today, I’m really proud that Halo has become a place centered around great hair, education, relationships, and making people feel confident when they leave our chair. And I still feel like we’re just getting started.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely has not always been a smooth road, but I do believe it’s the road that was made for me.

I’ve learned that some of the failures you experience in business can actually be the things that make you more successful, because there’s always a lesson in them. Before Halo, I had experience running tanning salons, and then I opened my very first salon suite in Dallas. Every one of those experiences taught me something that I’ve carried with me into the business owner I am today.

One of the biggest things I’ve learned is how to steward well what I’ve been given. I don’t feel like I’m building Halo just for myself. I really feel like there’s a bigger mission behind what I’m doing—whether that’s serving our clients, creating opportunities for our stylists, or building something that positively impacts the people around me.

I’ve also learned that being a good business owner doesn’t mean you have to be good at everything. It means knowing your strengths and finding the right people for the areas that aren’t your strengths. I’m incredibly thankful for the relationships I’ve built with my accountant, tax professionals, bankers, and other people who help me make better decisions.

The road still isn’t always smooth, but I think I’ve learned to appreciate the hard seasons because they’ve helped shape both me and Halo into what we are today.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Halo Salon is a full-service salon in Summerville, South Carolina, but I think what really defines us is the way we approach hair and the relationships we build with our clients.

We specialize in customized color, highlights, grey blending, corrective color, keratin smoothing treatments, extensions, and haircuts. We really pride ourselves on consultations and education. We want to understand not only what a client wants their hair to look like when they leave, but also their lifestyle, maintenance expectations, hair history, and what is realistically achievable.

One thing I always say is, “You should be wearing your hair, not your hair wearing you. “ I want our clients to have beautiful hair that works for their real life—not something they can only recreate the day they leave the salon.

I also think what sets Halo apart is that we aren’t focused on getting as many people through the door as possible. Of course we want to grow, but to me, success is about how many people come back, how many people trust us, and the relationships we build over the years.

Brand wise, I’m probably most proud of what Halo represents today. It has grown beyond just me behind the chair. I’ve been able to take what I’ve learned over the last 15 years and pour that into other stylists, while creating a team that genuinely cares about the client experience.

We’ve also expanded Halo beyond hair by adding our boutique and retail offerings, including my own product line, Knack Beauty Essentials.

Ultimately, I want people to know that Halo is a place where we take our craft seriously, but we also take care of people. We want you to walk in feeling welcomed, heard and understood—and leave feeling confident.

How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happiest is, first and foremost, my relationship with the Lord.
I don’t feel I could be the happiest version of myself without my faith. Each morning, I choose to live with joy and gratitude, and my faith is what grounds me.

My family is another tremendous source of happiness. I’m so thankful that God chose my husband, Aaron, and our three children to be my family. Pouring into them and spending quality time together brings me so much joy. They are also a major source of motivation in everything I do.

I find great happiness in my work as well. I truly don’t feel like what I do is work. I love meeting people, helping them, and making them feel beautiful and confident. Now that I have a staff, I also find deep fulfillment in helping others grow personally and professionally. Watching them learn, gain confidence, and become the best versions of themselves brings me a different kind of joy.

I also find happiness in traveling, trying new foods, exploring new places, and making memories with my family. For me, happiness comes from faith, family, meaningful work, and being fully present for the experiences that make life special.
