Today we’d like to introduce you to Kadi Harris.
Hi Kadi, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began doing hair at the age of 11. I was always particular about how my hair looked and would often take down styles just two weeks after getting them. Eventually, my dad encouraged me to learn how to do it myself—he bought me the hair and supplies I needed and suggested I start watching tutorials on YouTube.
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, I found myself with a lot of free time and decided to fully commit to learning and improving my skills. Once school resumed, I started doing hair for my friends and family, and the positive feedback I received really motivated me.
Many people told me I had real talent and could turn it into a business doing something I already loved. That inspired me to finally take the leap and start putting myself out there professionally.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some of the challenges I’ve faced while doing hair include building a consistent client base, staying creative with content creation, and finding effective ways to market myself and grow my business.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I primarily specialize in braiding, but I’m currently expanding my skills by practicing quick weaves, sew-ins, wigs, and other techniques. What I’m most proud of is being entirely self-taught, which I believe sets me apart and reflects my dedication, passion, and willingness to grow in this industry.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My biggest supporters throughout this journey have been my parents, and especially my friend Jill. She played a major role in encouraging me to take my business seriously and helped me rebrand and relaunch my social media platforms to better showcase my work.
