Meet Derrick Turner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Derrick Turner.

Hi Derrick, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a true man from the south. I have a work ethic that is unmatched. Growing up I was raised by a single parent. For most of my childhood, I was raised at my grandparent’s house. I witnessed what a little bit of money and a lot of love could do for everyone. My dreams for success were always big.

After high school, I attended Benedict College. I earned my BS in Criminal Justice and how to survive on my own while in college. While attending college I started working in retail. That is when I found my love for business. I worked for several years for a few different establishments.

During my business and leisure travel, I found an interest in Culture. That is what gave me the entrepreneurial spirit to open my own business. Now I am the proud owner of The Culture Shoppe. My business provides customers with a peaceful, relaxing shopping environment.

This also come with an owner who is hands-on and knowledgable about the history and benefits of items sold in the Shoppe. We carry gemstones, health and beauty products, artwork, and more. My motto is. Outwork Everybody!!!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Operating and financing my own business definitely hasn’t been all smooth. Being a small business owner it seems you are always one wrong decision from being out of business. It’s challenging not to have the cash and financial backing of major corporations.

You are left with the day-to-day operations of the business along with trying to make sure the inventory is correct, bills are paid, and the customers are satisfied. All of this can be stressful, challenging, and frustrating. Especially when you are trying to introduce something new to an area and build your brand.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
The Culture Shoppe LLC’s focus is on providing customers with products from all over the world. Our herbs, gemstones, jewelry, and artwork represent a lot of history and culture. We offer everything from decorative artwork to custom wire-wrapped jewelry. We specialize in customer service. Our focus is to make sure we have a lot of options.

With that being said we focus our attention on the history, location, and background of most of our products. We also focus on making personal relationships with our customers. to provide them with knowledge and understanding of all of our merchandise. Through product or conversation, every visit to The Culture Shoppe will be an excellent experience.

Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Becoming an entrepreneur is risk-taking. After years of working for other people and corporations. It was a major risk to step out on faith and follow my dreams. Working for a company you are guaranteed your pay if you show up and perform your daily duties.

As an entrepreneur, if the business is slow you have to figure out different ways to make it work. There aren’t any guarantees. I firmly believe that once you step out on faith. Never doubt yourself or your capabilities. Just having the faith to be an entrepreneur is fuel for your fire. In the end, risk takers will win.
