Life & Work with Ryan Bogdewic of Myrtle Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Bogdewic.

Hi Ryan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story really started long before I ever held a buffer or a polisher in my hand. I grew up in the automotive world — my family owned a Chevrolet dealership that my grandfather took over in 1958 from none other than Donald Yenko, the same Yenko who became famous for his high-performance Camaros, Corvettes, and other legendary muscle cars.

That dealership wasn’t just where I learned about cars — it’s where I learned about craftsmanship, pride, and relationships. From a young age, I was surrounded by people who treated every vehicle like a piece of rolling art, whether it was a brand-new Corvette or a classic restoration project.

Over the years, I gained a deep understanding of every aspect of the automotive world — from bodywork and mechanics to the smallest finishing details that make a vehicle truly stand out. Eventually, I took that knowledge and passion and turned it into something of my own — Attention to Detail Myrtle Beach.

Now, after more than 35 years in the automotive industry, I specialize in preserving and restoring the pride people have in what they drive, ride, or captain. My work isn’t just about making things shine — it’s about honoring the history, value, and effort behind every car, boat, or motorcycle I touch.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’d love to say it’s been a smooth road, but anyone who’s ever built something meaningful knows it rarely is. When I started Attention to Detail Myrtle Beach, I had over three decades of automotive experience — but shifting from working in a family dealership to running my own detailing business was a whole new challenge.

One of the biggest struggles was learning how to sell a service instead of a product. With a product, people can see and touch what they’re buying. But with detailing, you’re selling trust, craftsmanship, and the promise of pride when they see the finished result.

There were also the growing pains of starting over in a new area — building a client base from scratch, earning people’s confidence, and doing it all without cutting corners or discounting just to compete. It forced me to double down on what makes me different: building real relationships first, and letting my work speak for itself.

I’ve had slow seasons, times where I questioned whether I was doing things the right way, and moments where desperation tried to outweigh patience. But every one of those challenges taught me that reputation isn’t built overnight — it’s built detail by detail, handshake by handshake, and client by client.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
At Attention to Detail Myrtle Beach, I specialize in high-end automotive, marine, and motorcycle detailing — everything from paint correction and ceramic coatings to full restorations on classic cars and custom projects. But if you ask my clients what I really do, they’ll tell you I build relationships first and detail second.

After 35 years in the automotive industry, I’ve learned that true detailing isn’t about surface shine — it’s about craftsmanship, care, and connection. Anyone can wash a car, but not everyone can understand what that car means to its owner. I take pride in noticing things most people overlook — the small imperfections that separate “clean” from “showroom perfect.”

What sets me apart is how I approach every project as a collaboration, not a transaction. I don’t sell packages — I design experiences. Every detail job is tailored to the individual: their goals, their personality, and their vehicle’s story. Whether it’s a luxury car, a family boat, a vintage muscle car, or a daily driver, I treat it like it belongs in a museum.

I’m most proud of the trust my clients place in me. Many of them become long-term friends who invite me to family events and recommend me by name. To me, that’s success — when people don’t just love your work, they value your presence.

In short, I don’t just bring vehicles back to life — I help people rediscover the pride, joy, and emotion that made them fall in love with what they drive in the first place.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I’ve always believed that every big reward in life starts with a little risk — not the kind that comes from gambling, but the kind that comes from believing in yourself when the outcome isn’t guaranteed.

For me, the biggest risk was stepping away from my family’s Chevrolet dealership — a business with decades of history and stability — to start Attention to Detail Myrtle Beach from scratch. It meant leaving behind a name that carried weight, and putting my own on the line instead.

When I started this business, I wasn’t just betting on my skills; I was betting on my reputation, my work ethic, and my belief that people still value honesty, craftsmanship, and personal connection. There were moments early on where the phone wasn’t ringing, and the temptation to take shortcuts was strong. But I refused to compromise. I knew that building real relationships, offering real quality, and standing by my work would pay off — even if it took time.

To me, risk isn’t about chasing quick wins — it’s about choosing the hard path that leads to something meaningful. Every time I meet a new client, every time I pick up a polisher or lay down a ceramic coat, I’m taking a small risk — because I’m putting my name, reputation, and legacy on that result.

But that’s the beauty of it: without risk, there’s no growth. And without a little courage, there’s no reward worth earning.
