Life & Work with Ragaa Mansour of Greer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ragaa Mansour.

Hi Ragaa, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I think I started tracing images when I was 10 to learn how to draw and just grew from there. I have been drawing, painting. creating now for close to 27 years. I find myself learning and growing more now as an artist then I did taking art classes in high school. Learning about other artists and their techniques is great but growing into your own style is something they really don’t teach you. I draw animal portraits, pop culture art, small house ornaments and various other things. I really try not to limit myself or put myself into any particular niche but enjoy all art. I currently have work displayed at House 509 Bistro and Wine Bar, where all the art is wine influenced. I just started growing and expanding into Comic Con this past year and am excited to continue going to shows to sell reprints. Other than classes in high school that truly helped shape the basics, continuously producing art has helped me grow into a more confident artist. I love following fellow artists and learn all that I can from them to try new mediums and techniques. I think the first art that I actually sold was stained glass pieces about 12 years ago. I sold several sports related pieces that I turned into tables or lighted boxes. I did one of my first murals for a community gym in Greer and it was an amazing experience for me to learn and grow. Art has always been a great way to express myself and just comes naturally.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Growing as an artist is always a challenge. Really finding yourself and what you enjoy doing can be a struggle. I have only really learned my style and putting images together to make them my own the past couple of years. There’s inspiration everywhere and getting it to fit together with what’s in your head can be difficult.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I actually work in IT. I have for approximately 14 years now and enjoy troubleshooting issues and finding ways to make things work. It’s not as creative as being an artist but the field is vast and there’s room to grow.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
The IT field changes constantly and you have to change with it. There’s always something new coming out and ways to expand your knowledge. It’s a great challenge though.
