Today we’d like to introduce you to Latia Dorsett.
Hi Latia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Let’s see, my story: A Native New Yorker with Southern Roots by way of The Great Migration, who returned to her lineage. I always had an entrepreneurial spirit, but simply never had the time living in the Big Apple. I was always in school working on degrees, licenses and certifications within the Counseling Psychology and Education; in addition to caring for my family and simply living the New York way of life.
However, in October of 2018, I looked to the sky and asked where do I actually belong. I felt like my time in my hometown had finished and it was time for a new beginning. But where was the question. I received South Carolina as the answer, because this was my second home. The home of my history, lineage and story on both side of my family South Carolina was the place where I visited throughout my childhood during summers, holidays and various family events. Without question, I headed to South Carolina.
Once I moved and was employed (March 2019), I seen how quickly my life, health and spirit improved. No longer did I have to run for the bus, train or sit in traffic for three plus hours and the food was absolutely divine; in addition to meeting many of the people I am still close to now. The pandemic hit and it was a time the world stood still. There was nothing but time and I began to feel creative again. I wanted to do something different; to head in a different direction from my education. I always wanted to have my own small business and having the space and time to explore enabled me to investigate and educate myself on business. I was never one to let time slip by without utilizing in a constructive way. I researched how to start an e-commerce business and took free online courses to aid in my new adventure. This is when Lady L’s Delights LLC, a t-shirt company, where more than shirts are sold was birthed. At Lady L’s Delights hoodies, cups, bags and more can be found; even a newly published books,” Just Kick’In It.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Lady L’s Delights was launched officially (site published April 2021). I remember sending out virtual flyers, emails and newsletters regarding the launching of the site. When the site first took off, it was off to a magnificent start! Sales were gradual and steady. Lady L’s Delights has been around for approximately four years and sales have been moderate depending on the time of year. Some of the hindrances has been SEO and really having the ability to fund online optimization.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I absolutely love the Charleston area, from the food, various cultures and eclectic South/Hometown Vibe. Moreover, I am enamored with my family history and the stories of how we progressed within the south to the north. I acknowledge and am thankful of the story of how I came into existence. In fact, after doing some research I learned my great-great grandmother was initially from Charleston and records display I do not live too far from where she was born! Charleston is a culturally rich gem full of history.
