Life & Work with Kristal Provencher

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristal Provencher.

Hi Kristal, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
As a child, I grew up in the garden of my Italian grandparent’s home on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, harvesting fresh basil, parsley, and ripe tomatoes to help my Nonna make her famous Sunday sauce.

In her kitchen, my Nonna allowed me to experiment with using different herbs and spices to create my own recipes. As an adult, I continued to create and being health conscious, would take some of the recipes I was taught and put my own healthy twist on things.

I was always interested in skincare. I was fascinated at how certain products could change a person’s skin and transform conditions, clear up acne and smooth out wrinkles, so I took my interest and fascination and put myself through Esthetics school, graduating in 2011 as a professional Esthetician.

Yet, it wasn’t until I became pregnant with my 1st child in 2015 that I really started reading the labels of all of my products and researching every ingredient.

It was there that I found out just how many toxic ingredients and unnecessary chemicals are in even some so-called “organic” skincare products. I even began calling some of the manufacturers asking them to explain certain ingredients to me and why they were added to the product. No one gave me a clear answer.

I started looking at local farmer’s markets for hand-made skincare and truly couldn’t find anything. There would be a facial oil here or a balm over there but there really wasn’t an actual moisturizer, let alone a skincare line, so I decided to create my own.

I took my background in skincare and love for creating my own recipes and started my long journey of research and furthered my education with the School of Natural Skincare, a company based out of the UK that has courses outlined to teach people step-by-step how to create their own, natural skincare from scratch.

After completing the course, I began formulating and after a couple of years, developed a 4-step system complete with a cream cleanser, toning mist, facial serum, and daily moisturizer. I knew I wanted to create something special. Not only did my line need to have ingredients found in nature without any unnecessary fillers, but it needed to completely rehydrate and nourish the skin and the soul.

I spent years researching ingredients to do just that. You’ll find lavender to calm you, aloe to heal you, cocoa butter to comfort you, and rose so you feel loved, among many others, each with intention and purpose. I use some locally, South Carolina-grown ingredients such as lavender and patchouli essential oils as well as rose hydrosol.

I hope people will feel the textures, smell the aromas, and feel comforted by each and every ingredient chosen for them. Daily Comfort by Kristal has 4 products, each coming with a card explaining what the ingredients will do for the soul because it is my mission to comfort those who need it, both on the inside as well as the outside.

We all need to take at least a few minutes each day to take care of ourselves by using something we can feel good about. You should start and end your day with something beautiful, just like you.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been smooth.

I had so many failed attempts at certain products, thinking something was perfect when it wasn’t and having to try and figure out what I did wrong and fix it. I have been told “No” or simply not responded to so many times, I can’t count them.

Yet, from each failure comes to a lesson learned and because of those failures, I have created something spectacular.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I hand-make a 4-step skincare system using ingredients found in nature. It is my mission to comfort those who need it both on the inside as well as the outside, which is why each ingredient was chosen for a very specific purpose to do just that.

Daily Comfort by Kristal is so much more than a skincare line, I have dedicated years of research to developing a line that will completely rehydrate and nourish the skin AND soul. I am so proud of this line because not only has my own skin never felt better, but I am reminding people (especially other moms) to stop and take a moment for themselves.

When they use these 4 products first thing in the morning and the last thing before bed, it is my hope that they feel the textures, breathe in the beautiful aromas, and are comforted knowing they are using a skincare line with real ingredients found in nature, so they are doing something good for themselves.

Any big plans?
We recently moved to Charleston this past February (a dream come true!) and I have been lucky enough to start pop-up shops in local stores and have become a regular vendor at the Sunday Brunch Farmer’s Market behind the Pour House on James Island.

I was honored to have been interviewed on OHM radio 96.3 recently and look forward to having many more pop-up shops at local establishments here in Charleston.

I have found that other small business owners love helping each other grow and that is such a wonderful attribute.
