Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeff Kervin.
Hi Jeff, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I got started around 1996, during that year I was a full time Firefighter/EMT . I had a lot of time off with the Fireman’s Schedule. The pay was low but the job was very Rewarding in many ways . Lots of life lessons were learned and I decided to buy a Stump Grinder to supplement my income on my days off . As I got more experienced, I would go to a job to grind stumps that were left from a Tree Removal project where customers were unhappy with their services. I had the privilege of learning what the jobs should look completed that would make customers happy with their property. As time passed, customers in our community would asks me if I could remove trees and clean them up. This eventually led me to taking a leap of faith and starting Kervin Brothers Stump & Tree Co. LLC. It is hard to believe at how fast 29 years have went by. This company has blessed my family and I in so many ways, and we love nothing more than serving our community and others.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think knowing what I know today that owning any business is a smooth road . There were so many factors that I had no idea were involved. That is the beauty of self employment. The only person you are competing with is yourself. I believe to be successful you are your own worst enemy. Struggles come along the way, and of course finances. Employees were the hardest part because you are dealing with people and not robots . Finding good reliable, honest help is very rare , and being able to keep pushing yourself through the bad times is important. Managing your time between work and family takes a Team mindset with common goals that include not just the Company but the Family as well .
One of my twin daughters, Carson Kervin has recently came to work with me after graduating college with a degree in Business administration. She has brought new and innovative ideas to the company which has been a pleasant adjustment. I think it is neat to see when old and young mindsets come together to enrich the company ideals. Embracing change is a good thing, but you have to be willing and open to new ideas.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Yes YouTube has saved me with instructional videos , I like listening to anything positive and motivating. The Bible app on my phone is a game changer for me . It makes reading the Bible easier especially when the guy with the “Golden Voice “ reads it to you. This is apart of my morning routine before getting my work day started and helps me start my day on a positive note.
