Today we’d like to introduce you to Austin Breining.
Hi Austin, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started taking photos with my mom’s Canon Rebel T3i about 10 years ago. I only shot automatic modes back then. I continued to take photos with that camera and eventually bought my own camera, a Canon Rebel T6i.
As I got better, I started seeking online classes to understand more about photography and how I can get awesome photos. I found a guy named David Molnar who was doing a free webinar for photography. So I signed up and attended. My photos transformed with just that one webinar!
The transformation from general photos to more professional photos was awesome to see and I still wanted more. I finally upgraded to a full-frame camera, a Canon 6D Mark ii. I also got a different lens now for different shots and I’m still trying to grow and get better daily.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road for me. To finance a photography hobby let alone a business is very difficult to start.
This mixed with getting your name out there so people know who you are, and what you do is difficult and requires a lot of time advertising, and networking.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I take photos around the world. I have traveled from the US to Germany, and I’ve taken photos in Korea as well as in the Caribbean. I find the most pride in my nature shots.
From my splash photo all the way to my macro flower photos, I enjoy them all. The thing that I would say sets me apart is my willingness to learn new techniques and apply them to my client’s photos.
I had a client ask for a BOHO edit and at that time I never knew what it was. However, I learned it and applied my knowledge to it and that client now has that image in their living room.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
I’d say I have been fortunate with good luck for the most part. I think it has played a good part in being able to travel and get photos around the world.
