I’m from a small town called Marion, South Carolina, and I’ve always had a deep love for beauty, fashion, and modeling. That passion has been a thread throughout my life, but my journey has been anything but linear. I’ve been blessed to explore various career paths, including paralegal work, event planning, marketing, accounting, modeling, and even becoming an author. At this phase in my life, I’ve come to realize that each of these endeavors prepared me for my current path as a business owner.
One thing I’ve always believed—and love to encourage others to embrace—is the importance of accepting who they are, where they are, while maintaining a positive mindset and striving to become the best version of themselves. Life is about thriving, not just surviving. We have the power to create the life we want. We can pivot and change as many times as we want, and I’m living proof of that.
The pandemic was a turning point for me, as it was for so many others. It inspired me to take control of my future, and I began exploring franchise opportunities. I wanted to be in business for myself but not by myself, and that’s when I discovered Sugaring NYC. The brand’s values aligned with mine, and after experiencing sugaring for the first time, I was hooked—I never went back to any other method of hair removal.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it has not been an easy journey—but nothing worth having ever is. There were delays in the construction process, which put me behind schedule for opening. However, I’ve learned that our timing and God’s timing are not the same, and His plan is always greater.
The most challenging part of this journey was losing my father toward the end of construction. He was my driving force and biggest cheerleader, and his passing was devastating. There were moments when I felt like giving up entirely. Grief is a difficult road to navigate, and starting a business while grieving was territory I never thought I was equipped to handle.
While it has been a hard road, I’ve learned so much about myself and how to process everything in my own way. God has given me the strength to rechannel that energy, to accept what He has allowed, and to move forward. I draw inspiration every day from the blueprint my daddy left for us, and that keeps me going.
