Inspiring Conversations with Devajio Thompson of The Perfect Move

Today we’d like to introduce you to Devajio Thompson.

Hi Devajio, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I moved to Charlotte, North Carolina at the end of 2019 very impulsively. I didn’t really have a plan or know what I wanted to do with my life. I just knew that I needed a change of scenery. That’s where the universe was pushing me.

I worked a job that I hated. Although it was only 3 days a week, they were 3 long 12-hour shifts. 6:00 pm to 6:30 is every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. I ended up meeting who I thought was going to be my wife up in Charlotte. So everything was going smoothly until it wasn’t any longer.

Covid hit and things seemed to go downhill. At least during that time, that’s how I looked at it. Long story short, I ended up losing my job making $17+ an hour and on top of that, I found out the woman I was dating at the time was cheating on me, and to make matters worst, my roommate wanted to downsize from a two bedroom to a one bedroom. Leaving me to fend for myself.

Seeing how I had an eviction on my credit and no job, it would be impossible for me to find my own place in so little time. I lost my job in august of 2020, found out I was being cheated on in Jan. of 2021, and found out my roomie wanted to downsize that same month.

Things were looking rough. So after the lease was up in April, I moved back to South Carolina. My moms wouldn’t allow me to come back so I moved in with my grandmother.

My old business partner from Atlanta, where we initially started The Perfect Move. was back in South Carolina also. So it was perfect. We immediately jumped back on that moving company wave and started up in 2021. Ever since then, we’ve been thriving. Move on to 2022, and we’ve done more business this year than all of 2019 and 2021 combined.

Things are rising very quickly and will continue to rise as long as we continue to push.

That day I was broken, I looked at myself in the mirror and said NEVER AGAIN! NEVER AGAIN WILL I EVER BE THIS BROKEN! NEVER AGAIN WILL I EVER BE THIS LOW! I WILL PICK MYSELF UP! I WILL CONTINUE TO GROW AND PUSH TOWARD MY DREAMS! And I’ve been living in my dreams ever since.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
No, not at all.

The thing they don’t tell you about starting a business or even owning one is that you will develop anxiety, frustration, and even insomnia. I have days when I don’t know when the next checks going to come in. Or if my phone is even going to ring. Or if we will continue to get business because we are still fairly new. But I still GO. I still RUN.

I’m running blindly toward my goals because I don’t know what’s going to happen. I know what I want to happen though. I’m taking a chance on myself. I don’t have a job. This is all I do. I’m either going to run into a wall… or I’m going to create a door from the momentum of my drive.

But I will not stop!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about The Perfect Move?
We are a newer moving company in South Carolina. We started out business in Atlanta in 2019 and have since been on the move (no pun intended).

We specialize in satisfying the customer as that is our main goal outside of protecting the furniture. Everyone knows what a moving company does, so our aim is at making the client feel like family and not just another customer.

So I like to say we specialize in customer satisfaction. We offer $50 discounts to customers that decide to use our services for the first time and special military, senior, and college student discounts.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
We work with several realtors in the upstate. We offer a finders fee and also a commission to realtors as long as it doesn’t breach their contract with their company.

We also work with other moving companies here in the upstate. If they are short men or vice versa, we always come through.
