Today we’d like to introduce you to Yachiyd Yahu.
Hi Yachiyd, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
It’s a beautiful thing when a career and a passion come together. HalleluYAH!
“Man your food is so good you should open a restaurant!”
Every time I fire up my grill it draws a crowd! From just grilling in our backyard to grilling in public, a crowd was sure to come. After working a corporate job in the legal field for almost 10 years in Florida, I knew there was much more required of me than just working for someone else for the rest of my life. I have such a passion for food.
I love experimenting with flavors and ingredients from all cultural backgrounds. With much prayer and the encouragement of my wife, I decided to step out on faith. I put in my two-week notice, we sold our home in Florida and moved to Anderson, SC (of course it took time). I’ll admit I loved my job. The pay was great, my boss was amazing and my coworkers were fantastic but everything must eventually come to an end. My spiritual awakening moved us to South Carolina.
My love for grilling and wanting to contribute to our spiritual family inspired us to invest in the food trailer. I thank YAHUAH (God almighty) for allowing me this opportunity to do what I love and hopefully encourage others in the process. I truly am thankful HE allowed our family to share our love for food with all who eat it. HalleluYAH!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has been a little bumpy at times, but none the least, it has been enjoyable. We encountered many obstacles to becoming DHEC-approved, but we’re able to overcome them all. Also, it was rough finding out places that were great opportunities for our small business and then other places that were not as profitable.
We also had little bumps and bruises on our truck, sometimes wasting food while traveling, forgetting to unplug our generator, often forgetting to close our door on our porch, etc. I believe I brought 4 doors in less than a month because mine flew off somewhere on the road while traveling.
We just pray we didn’t cause any accidents that we don’t know about!
As you know, we’re big fans of Kodesh BBQ n Bowls. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Kodesh BBQ and Bowls is a Hebrew-owned small food truck business. We specialize in perfecting smoked BBQ and many other things. We take our mouth-watering BBQ and turn it into irresistible cultural bowls that pack tons of flavor. It sets us apart from any of your ordinary BBQ joints. No one can put together a mixture of cultural flavors as we can.
We are known for our amazing bbq bowls and delicious wings. People just can’t seem to get enough of Kodesh. We are also known for our great Turkey legs Jerk chicken and Jerk Bowl. Honestly, you can’t go wrong with Kodesh. Everything on our menu will have you planning your next trip to visit us. I’ve heard our Okra is the best people have ever experienced.
We would love for the people to know that we are willing to cater, attend, or serve at all of your events. However, because we follow the Torah, we don’t work on Saturdays. We offer amazing food and wonderful service to all of our clients.
Any big plans?
We currently don’t have any plans except to keep the business growing. We are learning the ends and outs of the food trucking industry in this area, and we pray that next year we’re bigger than we were this year.
We seem to be on the perfect path to reach those goals. If things work out, we may decide to open up a brick-and-mortar, but we love traveling and meeting people and being able to have the option to go anywhere to serve many people.
