Hidden Gems: Meet Kimberly of Coastal Boards and Bites

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly.

Hi Kimberly, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
What began as a simple love for cooking and entertaining, and bringing people together – evolved into a business that blends creativity, hospitality, and memorable experiences. After completing a 26-week Culinary Program at L’Academie de Cuisine in the Washington, DC, it deepened my passion for food and appreciation for the joy it brings others.

With degree in Entrepreneurial and Marketing Management from the University of South Carolina and more than 30 years of experience in the technology industry and I wanted to combine my business acumen with my culinary passion. That vision became Coastal Boards & Bites—a mobile charcuterie and sweet bites cart company designed to elevate private gatherings with style and ease.

That vision became Coastal Boards & Bites—a mobile charcuterie and sweet bites cart company designed to elevate private gatherings with style and ease.

After moving to the Charleston coast, I was inspired by the effortless charm and relaxed lifestyle, and saw an opportunity to bring something fresh and experiential to private events—something beyond the traditional catering setup. That’s how Coastal Boards & Bites was born: a mobile charcuterie and sweet bites cart service designed to make entertaining effortless and unforgettable. Today, Coastal Boards & Bites serves weddings, corporate functions, and private events across the Lowcountry, offering beautifully curated cart experiences that reflect our signature blend of “Coastal Charm” and “Effortless Indulgence.”

What started as a creative outlet has grown into a full-service brand serving weddings, corporate events, and private celebrations across the Charleston coast. Each cart—from our Classic Charcuterie to our Sweet Bites and Brunch Bar carts—is crafted to elevate the guest experience, creating moments that will be remembered long after the last bite.
It’s been incredibly rewarding to watch the business evolve from concept to reality, building connections across the community while creating experiences that people remember long after the event ends. I look forward to sharing it with you!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has had it’s share of bumps in the road but I think that’s true for most entrepreneurs. Every challenge has taught me something valuable along the way, making it that more exciting!

One of the biggest hurdles has been introducing a completely new concept to the market. A charcuterie cart isn’t something most people have seen before, so part of the journey has been educating clients on what it is and how it’s a true interactive experience that can elevate their event. Once people experience it, they absolutely love it—but getting them to picture it in their own event took some time.

Every day is about learning something new and building from scratch — establishing new processes, developing menus, and managing food costs.

And of course, building awareness as a new brand in Charleston’s busy event scene hasn’t been easy. But through word-of-mouth, styled shoots, and a lot of persistence, the response has been amazing. Each challenge has really helped me grow the business—and made the success feel that much more rewarding.

We’ve been impressed with Coastal Boards and Bites , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Coastal Boards & Bites is a mobile charcuterie and dessert cart company based in Isle of Palms, SC. We create beautifully styled, interactive food experiences that make entertaining effortless and unforgettable. From our Classic and Signature Charcuterie carts to Sweet Bites Bars featuring Cannoli, French Macarons, or nostalgic Candy, each setup is designed to elevate weddings, corporate events, and private celebrations.

What sets us apart is that every cart is more than food—it’s a completely customizable experience designed to complement your vision, tastes, and budget. Each one is thoughtfully curated with fresh ingredients, elegant presentation, and a coastal-inspired aesthetic that captures Charleston’s charm.

At its heart, Coastal Boards & Bites is about creating moments that people remember long after the event is over. Our carts are not just catering—they are designed to bring people together, spark conversation, and make hosting feel fun again.

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is creating experiences that bring people together. I’ve always believed food has this amazing way of connecting people—it instantly makes things feel more special. I love seeing guests gather around one of our carts, chatting, laughing, and enjoying every bite. And it truly brings me joy seeing people loving the cart experience.

Ultimately, it’s about joy, connection, and making hosting feel effortless. If I can help someone relax and enjoy their own event, that is what makes me happy. That’s really what keeps me inspired and excited to do what I do.
