Exploring Life & Business with Patience Canty of Flourish Wellness Center

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patience Canty.

Hi Patience, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I graduated from chiropractic school in 2021. While in school I became a certified holistic doula, with the hope of providing care for our future kids. I wanted to care for them through infancy and childhood. I also wanted to provide care for children by also providing care for their mothers while they (the children) are still in utero. I became certified with the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association to adjust and evaluate subluxations (misalignments) in pregnant populations. I also became certified in Neuroemotional Technique, which uses psychology and applied kinesiology principles to help relieve stress and clear emotional patterns that create a hindrance to a better quality of life. I have always known I wanted to help others as a doctor. It was not until 2016 that I realized there were more holistic paths for doing so. Within chiropractic, I have the autonomy to care for my patients in a way that is more personalized for them to get the results they need. I enjoy being a doula for families that want to become educated about the birth process and want to ensure their voices and wishes are heard in allopathic spaces. I have often found the wishes of the provider or facility hold more weight than the birthing families themselves. I want to help women and others flourish by tapping into their God-given ability to adapt and heal. I currently do that via specific and scientific chiropractic care, doula services and neuroemotional technique

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some of the biggest obstacles have been personal and financial. I have a younger brother, who is recently deceased, that required 24/7 care. I often was driving from Georgia, where I attended chiropractic school and practiced for 3 years, back to South Carolina to help my mother with him. He was and is my biggest motivation. I now live life to the fullest out of memory for him because he was not able to. I also experienced a series of back to back deaths of loved ones while I was in chiropractic school. These life events made it extremely hard to continue, but despite the odds I was able to persevere and graduate. When I made the decision to step out and become an owner for my own office, I knew there would be financial struggles. I was familiar with doing my best to make ends meet because I was raised by a single mom who taught me to be self-sufficient. However, there is no struggle like the struggle of an entrepreneur who is just starting their business. Yet again, I am being creative in the ways that I find funding for Flourish. This fuels my desire to provide care for those who may also be in less than ideal circumstances. I’m building a community of practice members who know the value of striving for great health and that is so inspiring.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Flourish Wellness Center is a space that provides chiropractic care, holistic doula services and NeuroEmotional Technique sessions. We specialize in pediatrics, perinatal, and women’s health. We often see the husbands, fathers, brothers and sons of many of our practice members as well. What sets us apart is not only do we offer in office services but we provide mobile support and visits as well. We collaborate with our practice members to create unique plans for care that include restorative and wellness plans. We utilize a combination of manual and instrument based techniques that keep the comfort level of the practice member always in mind. We are proud of the fact we are black woman owned. We offer discovery sessions to learn more about our members and to create the plan for better health together. We provide adjustment appointments for adults, perinatal and pediatric populations. We also offer birth planning, labor preparation and birth support services. We seek to provide support to the whole being that includes chiropractic for the brain and body, Neuroemotional technique for the mind and body and doula services to empower families to take birth preparation and labor back into their own hands. Practice members have the ability to schedule their appointments online and reschedule via access to a practice member portal.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters the most to me is spiritual alignment. I believe I serve others best when I’ve had adequate time with my family and alone to seek solitude with God. I believe that time with family empowers us to have the confidence to take on everything that life can throw on us from day to day. I spend time with my 97 year old grandfather to gain wisdom but also to ground myself because he’s known me since I first made my entrance to the world. I am aware that these similar core values matter to other women as well. I want to help them shed the inferences that cause stress in their lives. This will ultimately allow the version of themselves that God intended to flourish to shine. I believe women should be able to make informed healthcare decisions for their families. I love showing them where to find information and how to be more intuitive with their decision- making.
