Today we’d like to introduce you to Chase Ransom.
Hi Chase , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Back in middle school, I didn’t even want to do track. I had no real interest, but I gave it a shot — and surprisingly, I ended up qualifying for state in shot put, finishing 13th. That lit a small spark in me.
When I got to high school, I kept at it. My first year, I made it to sectionals — that’s the qualifying meet for state — and I missed qualifying for state by just one inch, placing ninth when I needed top eight. That single inch changed my mindset. Ever since that day, I’ve made it my mission to be the hardest worker in any room I walk into.
By my senior year, I was ranked number one in the state. But at the state meet, I finished sixth. That was another big moment for me — it taught me that titles and rankings mean nothing if you’re not ready when it counts. So I used that as fuel.
When I got to college, I was determined to deliver when it mattered most. I won first place in shot put at our conference championship and was named the 2021–2022 SIAC Field Athlete of the Year.
But another huge turning point for me came off the field. In June 2021, NIL laws changed, letting college athletes make money from their name, image, and likeness. I saw a lot of D1 athletes getting deals left and right — but as a D2 athlete at an HBCU, I didn’t see anyone who looked like me getting those same opportunities. So I did something about it.
I stayed up nights researching, figuring out how to pitch myself. I wrote an email and sent it to over 250 companies. The first day, I heard nothing. The second day, a few ‘no’s. On the third day, I finally got a ‘yes’ — but it wasn’t the perfect deal. They wanted me to promote wristbands, but I had to buy the wristbands myself and get paid off the sales. Some people would’ve said no — but I did it anyway. That small step turned out to be one of the best decisions I ever made.
From there, things took off. I went on to land NIL deals with brands like McDonald’s, Circle K, CVS, Stanley, Snapchat, and more.
Now, my mission is to give back. I help athletes at smaller schools learn how to do exactly what I did — how to build their personal brand, connect with companies, and create opportunities when no one is handing them out. Big-school athletes have companies chasing them. I had to learn how to chase the opportunities myself — and now I’m teaching others how to do the same
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I remember waking up and seeing D1 athletes signing million-dollar deals just for showing up and posting a single photo. Meanwhile, I was a D2 athlete at an HBCU. Nobody was throwing money at me. When I first started, I literally had to buy the product I was promoting just to even have a chance. And I wasn’t getting a big check upfront — I was getting a small percentage of every sale I could make.
So while those big-school athletes could just snap a quick picture and cash out, I had to put out quality content — real strategy, storytelling, video, branding. I had to hustle for every click and every dollar. But that process made me sharper. It forced me to learn how to build real relationships with companies, how to deliver value, and how to make myself stand out when nobody knew my name.
That’s exactly why my mission now is to make sure the athletes I work with don’t have to start at the bottom like I did. I want to give them a blueprint, resources, and real strategies so they don’t have to buy in just to get in the game. I want to show them how to build real partnerships — not just pose for a photo — and how to create long-term value for themselves and the brands they represent.
I had to fight for my seat at the table. Now, I’m building a bigger table and pulling up more chairs for the next wave of athletes coming behind me
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My business is called MR NIL Marketing Group LLC. We exist for one main reason: to level the playing field for athletes who come from smaller schools and overlooked programs — just like I did.
When I was an athlete at a Division II HBCU, I had to learn NIL the hard way. No big agency was chasing me down. I didn’t have a million followers. I didn’t have a blue check. I had to teach myself how to pitch brands, negotiate deals, build my personal image, and create content that actually moves people — all while being a full-time student and athlete.
So now, that’s exactly what MR NIL does for others. We help athletes understand their value, build their personal brand, and secure partnerships that fit — not just deals for the sake of deals.
We specialize in showing small-school athletes how to stand out when they don’t have ESPN cameras following them around. We teach real strategy: how to pitch, how to negotiate, how to create content that performs better than just posting a basic photo and hoping for likes. We focus on authenticity, storytelling, and real results.
What sets us apart is that I lived it. I’m not some outsider agency just giving cookie-cutter advice. I built my own brand from scratch when no one was handing me anything — and now I show others exactly how to do the same thing.
What I’m most proud of is that we’re giving overlooked athletes a real shot to control their own narrative and income. They don’t have to wait for a big school logo to make them valuable — they learn how to show companies why they’re valuable now.
So if there’s one thing I’d want people to know about MR NIL, it’s that we’re here to empower underdogs. We don’t just help you get a deal — we help you build a brand that outlasts the game. That’s what we stand for, and that’s what we do every day
At MR NIL Marketing Group LLC, we help small-school athletes win big in the NIL space — no matter their following or division.
We offer:
• Brand Building: Find what makes you unique and package it to attract brands and fans.
• Pitch Coaching: Learn how to reach out, pitch yourself, and close real deals.
• Content Strategy: Create content brands want to pay for — not just posts, but real stories.
• Negotiation Support: Know your worth and protect it.
• Workshops: Group and team sessions to level up fast.
We give overlooked athletes the tools and game plan I used to land deals with major brands — so they don’t have to figure it out alone
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Honestly, I don’t really believe in luck — good or bad.
I believe in keeping my faith in God and working hard every single day, no matter what. For me, it’s never been about waiting for a lucky break — it’s been about putting in the work, staying consistent, and trusting that the results will come in God’s timing.
Whether it’s on the field, in the classroom, or in my business, I’ve learned that if you stay prepared, stay humble, and keep showing up when others won’t, doors open. Some people call that luck — I just call it faith, discipline, and work.
