Daily Inspiration: Meet Tromell Gavin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tromell Gavin.

Hi Tromell, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Well, I always had a curiosity about how movies and music videos were made. I used to spend much of my childhood watching movies and 106 & Park studying videos. I shot & edited my first video in middle school. It was a little dunk video that I shot off my iPhone in our school gym. From there I would shoot some of my close friend’s music and workout videos.

Photography came later on when I was with my older could Keith better known as KGTheArtist who is a rapper and videographer. We were in his studio playing around and started taking pictures and shooting some video footage. He told me I had a natural eye/talent. From there I started trying to find some mentors outside of my cousin KG but that really didn’t work so I got kind of discouraged and took a brief break. My senior year came around and I finally got the courage to pick the camera back up.

I saved some money bought my first actual camera and spent a lot of time studying the art of videography & photography. Watching YouTube videos, getting tips from KG & my brother Rashad; who is also a photographer, and receiving tough critiques from close family members. All those things bought me into the decent photographer & videographer I am today

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not, I wanted to stop many times. I fell out of love with it at times, I felt stagnant, didn’t feel like I had true support, could not see any growth in my work, etc… The thing that keeps me going is that I want to better my situation and the ones that are closest to me. I had to start appreciating the small achievements as well as the big ones. Its a challenging process but I believe if you do not doubt and keep working everything will fall in place

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I would consider myself a visual artist. I do videography, photography, and graphic design. My business is named Suave Visuals. I would say I specialize more so in videography and photography. When it comes to the graphic side I do logos, music covers, flyers, movie posters, and clothing designs.

I am most proud of being a business owner for five years and being able to invest back into my business. I think my personality and communication skills set me apart from others. I am able to make people comfortable and understand to communicate and understand their visions.

What are your plans for the future?
I plan to start filming skits, and short films and I want to expand into some other styles of photography such as automobile and real estate photography. I also want to shoot for a magazine in the next 2-3 years.
