Daily Inspiration: Meet Malaysia Harp & Keenan Olivera

Today we’d like to introduce you to Malaysia Harp & Keenan Olivera.

Hi Malaysia & Keenan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
We started Mushie Charms in 2021 as a solo project for my (Malaysia) resin/macramé jewelry and essential oil blends.

My partner Keenan is a glass blower with amazing talent and one day our two talents became one! We love collaborating with each other as we share similar ideas and creative visions.

Since the start of it all, we have done 10 vending events in the Charleston area and soon will vend at our first festival on July 10th at the Woodlands Nature Reserve for Artcelium Fest: Summer Edition.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Any craft takes time, patience, and money.

For a long time, Keenan worked without a Kiln to properly anneal his glass pendants. The result of this would be that a finished glass pendant would crack from within. It was disheartening to see something so beautiful turn to waste.

Eventually, we came across a great deal for a new kiln + torch set up and we jumped on that deal! As for myself, my struggles came from my essential oil crafting. I spend many hours learning, reading, and writing about herbs and essential oils in order to properly present my craft.

For a long time, I was infusing my oils by hand which is a long/messy process. It is safe to say that with Keenan’s help I was gifted an oil infuser and that has lifted such a weight off of my shoulders.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Mushie Charms has a large variety of items to choose from! We specialize in:

•Glass/resin/crystal pendants
•Insect Terrariums
•Essential oil blends
•Herbal skincare

What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
We have learned to not take social media so seriously.

Social media can inspire artists but can also have the opposite effect. It’s important to step back from media in order to focus on what really matters.

The best investment you can make is in yourself.
