Conversations with DeMond DU’Shawn

Today we’d like to introduce you to DeMond DU’Shawn.

Hi DeMond, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Briefly, I got started making music, cover art, and entertainment between the wonderful years of grammar school, and summer vacations when I would tag along with my mother’s R&B band to performances, rehearsals, and writing sessions. Back then, my uncle, TJ made me a rapper out of necessity and he paired me with another kid from across town named Previn aka B-Down and I became B-Bop.

Unfortunately, shortly after that my mother was brutally robbed and beaten and I became possessed with revenge and retribution which led to drug abuse, alcoholism, and gang ties. It took me years to melt away that pain and redirect what was a downward spiral of inner city life and hardships.

However, I stand complete with a great group of brothers known as GRYSKLL and together we seek to build backward into our communities and then forward towards hip-hop, mental health, and clear consciousness to accept things that we cannot change and the wisdom to know the difference in the face of adversity.

At, we offer podcasts, music, merchandise, and our overall open-minded guidance in finance and life experiences streaming everywhere music is enjoyed.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Personally, it’s an everyday struggle.

Also, bad decisions in relationships, custody battles and stolen cars made it harder to see the forest for the trees but that was my fault.

So yes, I’ve had my share of handcuffs and straight jackets to know that the streets are not really paved with gold and silver lining but ribbons in the sky.

Nowadays, my goals are more tangible and not as far fetch away from family, friends, and good company.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a writer, performer, and personality leader by example.

I started LinkHard Production to teach the youth about being a business and living the dream. My music streams around the world daily and “One Time” is still my favorite and most popular song along with “One More” “Supreme Oscar” and “Removed” featuring Kareem Muse and Dragon’s Pitchfork.

Together our songs set us apart from other artists’ perspectives and respect for our culture and emancipated freedom.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
At some point risking it all became an everyday habit and now its strategic way of life is being reinforced with sharing, caring, commitment, meditation, and prayer.

I write to take the risk for our ancestors. Now what I’ve learned is when and to how to take a risk and to what expenses because there’s a very thin line between risk and gambling to feed an addiction.

That’s selfishness whereas sacrificing childhood, college, and pettiness to work to tend to my family and add on is the one risk that I have always taken.
