Conversations with Brooke Embry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooke Embry.

Hi Brooke, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started my photography journey in 2011 with a focus on families and high school seniors. While I thoroughly enjoyed it, I didn’t feel fulfilled; something was missing.  I knew I loved photography and continued down my path until I had my son in 2017.  In preparing for the baby, I also set out to learn about all things newborn photography so I could take his photos when he was born and BOY-OH-BOY!

Little did I know just how fulfilling newborn photography would end up being for my soul! After that time, I set out to learn everything about maternity and newborn photography and finally found my niche!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like any journey, I have certainly had some bumps in the road! Photography is an industry in itself that is hard to make a name for yourself in with so many hobbyists out there.

After learning digital composite work and lighting newborn babies; my business has grown more and more each year and this year I was able to secure my first studio space outside of my home!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in Maternity and Newborn portraits. I am known for my creative design work and for providing clients with some more elaborate portraits that will take their breath away. I am proud of building this business from the ground up with the support of my husband! With any form of art, my style of photos is what sets me apart.

I don’t really fall into any realm of “dark and moody” or “light and airy” – I like to stay in a lane of my own based on what sets my soul on fire. If I don’t look at a portrait I’ve created and think, “Oh my gosh! I love it!” then I am going to re-edit it until I do.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Your journey is your own. It is not comparable to others. Find the specialty you truly love and ROCK IT. Niche down – and you will undoubtedly have success.
