Conversations with Anna Ciesielczyk & Madi Yates of GVL Doula Besties

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Ciesielczyk & Madi Yates of GVL Doula Besties.

Hi Anna & Madi, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Anna was new to Greenville and totally rocking it here. When she posted on a Facebook group looking to meet other local doulas, Madi replied and we decided to grab pizza together.

We totally hit things off and we knew our friendship was inevitable. As we continued to collaborate together, it became a no brainer that together really is better. We had our own independent doula businesses at the time and decided to forego them and join forces.

We knew that this sounded crazy to most, but we were so certain in our capabilities as a team. We knew that this would be the start of something so impactful for not only ourselves, but most importantly, for our birthing community.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Genuinely, we have had a really great transition to this partnership.

We both already made significant sacrifices to pursue doula work and run our own businesses. We came into this partnership knowing there would be challenges along the way, but we are confident that there are few obstacles that cannot be conquered with great communication and flexibility.

Just like birth, life can be unexpected so we plan and hope for the best. And when things get crazy, we know we can solve it together!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
GVL Doula Besties is the best of all worlds; Two doulas for one!

Between the TWO of us, we have the know-how, experience, and collaboration a family could ever need for support. When you book with GVL Doula Besties, you become part of our Bestie community and are able to form connections with other expectant families, professionals, and local resources.

A doulas job is very personal, and very hard to do without the passion and fire for birth work. As doulas, we provide emotional, physical, and practical support for expecting families during their pregnancy, birth and postpartum. All doulas have their own styles and their own offerings, so We cannot speak for all; but for us, we truly believe there is no wrong way to give birth.

We support all types of birth, whether it be in your living room or in an operating room. We pride ourselves on delivering evidence-based information, access to reliable resources and referrals, and unwavering support. We believe in empowerment, in kindness, in commitment and dedication. We are proud to serve the needs of expecting parents/families and strive to make lifelong connections with them.

While providing in-person birth and postpartum support is what you would typically think of when you consider a doulas job, we wanted to expand our offerings even further by creating online resources as well. We have carefully crafted helpful guides, kits, courses, and more to spread our knowledge and create helpful resources to all expectant families and birth workers.

All families deserve support and care during this sacred and vulnerable time in their lives!

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
We have learned that collaboration is key!

The spirit of collaboration is what gave birth to our partnership and we know for certain that it works! We are so grateful to our fellow birth workers and GVL small businesses who we have had the pleasure of working alongside.

Team work not only in our births, but in our business is what makes everything worthwhile. We have seen that what we have created together within our community has become bigger than anything that we could ever offer up on our own.

We are always looking for opportunities to pass along the wisdom and kindness that has been so graciously given to us.
