Today we’d like to introduce you to Farin Doran.
Hi Farin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My husband and I actually had an ice cream cake for our own wedding 18 years ago. We did not want traditional cake and so one day, I just walked into a Carvel and asked if they could do that for us. It was the only time I had ever had ice cream at a wedding and it was amazing. Fast forward to now and we are now catering mostly weddings and giving newly married couples a chance at having ice cream at their own weddings in the form of a hand crafted cookie ice cream sandwich. We took this idea we had 18 years ago and made it better with an adorable Charleston themed ice cream bike and custom flavors. What started as a “this would be a fun job” turned into a full blown catering business where we are now serving at weddings, events and parties. We absolutely love our job!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I truly believe that if you can find what you are passionate about, then you can have a job that you love and make money at the same time. Any struggle that we had, we were able to take a step back, analyze and pivot. Mostly, it has been a smooth road on this business journey. We are just learning what we like doing, what doesn’t serve us as much and what we can do better.
As you know, we’re big fans of Dolce Vita Charleston. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We own Dolce Vita Charleston. We are a local catering company serving handcrafted cookie ice cream sandwiches. We have an adorable Charleston themed bike (that is totally functional) and we bring that to events loaded with custom ice cream sandwiches. We mostly cater weddings and make custom flavors for the wedding couple. Most people love taking pictures on the bike, next to it, around it… it really has became a photo opportunity. We love it when couples want to ride the bike into their reception. My favorite part of my job is when people see this adorable bike, they wonder what is inside and their eyes light up when they realize that they are about to have a huge, handcrafted cookie ice cream sandwich at a wedding. It makes any event that much for more fun!
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
We love what we do and we love working together. I love that this job/venture has given us the opportunity to bring joy in people’s lives. People are always happy when we are around. We thank God for giving us this opportunity and giving us ways that we can give back to the community as well.
