Community Highlights: Meet Angela Bennett of Beauty in Motion Coaching & Consulting

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Bennett.

Hi Angela, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always loved being creative and after nearly 20 years of working in a fast-paced corporate environment, I had the growing urge to create something all my own that had deep purpose and meaning. I needed a counterbalance to the busy lifestyle and demanding priorities. What I realized is that my soul craved to slow down, appreciate small moments, and cultivate my passions to create new adventures in life.

So, I embarked on a passion project that would spread a message of positivity and self-published The Adventures of Big Sil children’s books series. While we may often hear this life lesson about living in the moment, we don’t always do it. We find it hard as humans, however, the one who I observe is most able to embrace this way of life, is my American Pit Bull Terrier, Big Sil (short for Silvio).

Big Sil exudes positivity. He thoroughly enjoys life every minute and all the small joys. Dogs have an innate ability to live in the moment. Big Sil has always loved adventures, especially road trips to discover new places. So, inspired by his real-life adventures to many states across the U.S., Big Sil magically travels to cities across the U.S. by jumping into a picture book.

Each page contains a real photo of sight, combined with vivid illustrations of Big Sil on the move. Big Sil’s books help kids learn about their cities and develop an early interest in adventure and travel and a portion of the proceeds goes to dog rescue. Throughout the creation of The Adventures of Big Sil, I collaborated with many entrepreneurial individuals who shared their talents in the making of the books including illustrators, photographers, and other writers.

Through this adventure, I rediscovered my own creative talents and worked with many inspirational people. My children’s book stories are also a story about igniting my own creative adventures in life, following my passion, and sharing my talent and creations with the world to inspire others. My journey did not end there, my work motivated me to take my adventure further to incorporate my passion for expressing talent into my work in my corporate role within a large organization.

I moved from a Brand General Management role to HR, heading up Talent Acquisition and Talent Management, leading a team of talented experts who find their fulfillment every day in helping people leverage their strengths and find their passion and purpose in a next-level career opportunity. I became a Certified Professional Coach shortly after my career move and started Coaching others, utilizing my years of experience in corporate roles to help others navigate meaningful career journeys.

In 2022, I started my own practice, Beauty in Motion Coaching & Consulting. Through creative Coaching, I facilitate forward momentum in people and organizations. There’s beauty in moving forward towards a goal and I help people move with intentional purpose, defining their strengths, passion, and desires and setting action plans into motion.

None of this would be possible if I hadn’t taken a step out of my busy life to slow down and reflect on what I am passionate about and then exerted my courage to go on a new adventure. Now, what’s next? Perhaps, The Adventures of Big Sil in South Carolina?!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?

Today, I look back and see my journey as stepping stones and a beautiful evolution, but the path was not straightforward, it was a zig-zag. The greatest challenge was in taking a pause to reflect. For years, I never took the time. I was too busy on planes, trains, and automobiles. I was successful in my job, so I just kept marching forward, speeding along the road I was on.

The Adventures of Big Sil books taught me that I could make other realities happen. Once this door was opened, it changed my whole mindset. It’s this exact challenge that I now take great joy in addressing with others through Professional Coaching.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I have been blessed to have the support and friendship of other entrepreneurs who built their own businesses. Eileen Corr, Corr Consulting of New York, saw my potential early on when we met at my second company while I was still in my 20s. She was running strategic insights and consumer research for the area I was working on and helped me build my strategic thinking.

She later served as an inspiration in building her own Consulting practice, leveraging her strengths outside of corporate, and showed me the possibilities of success on your own. I must mention Drew Lewis, the illustrator of the Big Sil books, who built and runs the graphic design and brand illustration agency named IMAIJIN.

I met Drew while I was looking for an illustrator. His talent in graphic design and illustration blew me away when he produced an illustrated version of Big Sil that captured his essence. Not only is Drew the most talented graphic designer I know, but he is also an entrepreneur that knew early on in his working life that he would build his own business, and so he did successfully.

Drew has become a friend for life and someone with whom I regularly exchange business and marketing ideas and insights. I am inspired by all that Drew came to know on his own, without the support of a big corporation, but also by Drew’s resiliency. Drew has carried through the ups and downs and daily challenges of both doing his amazing creative work while running a business and finding the proper way to balance all of it.

I cannot name them all, but I have also had many other advocates throughout my career journey. These advocates were not afraid to give me feedback to grow and put me on bigger projects that leveraged my strengths and stretched me into new territories. These were the believers, and they helped me grow into who I am today with all my skills, strengths, and passion to make an impact. Now, I spend my time Coaching others to maximize their potential and it is very fulfilling.
