Today we’d like to introduce you to Shereka Johnson-Bean.
Hi Shereka, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
After migrating to the United States in 2013, I made a promise to myself — that once I found my footing in life, I would give back to the place that raised me: Jamaica. Growing up, I knew what it felt like to battle limited opportunities, social pressure, and the discouragement that comes when your dreams feel out of reach. I carried those experiences with me as a reminder of what so many young people still face today.
Out of that promise, Beyond a Dream Inc. was born — a movement to empower children and youth to overcome the same barriers that once challenged me. Our mission is simple yet powerful: to equip the next generation with the tools, mindset, and opportunities to dream boldly, plan wisely, and take meaningful action.
The name Beyond a Dream is a declaration — that dreams are not just wishes whispered into the night or goals scribbled on paper. With vision, guidance, and determination, they can become reality.
I am a mother, a wife, a humanitarian. I hold a Masters in Public Administration. I serve as the Vice Chair for Northwestern High School’s Student Improvement Council, I am the Secretary for Friends of Northwestern, a local booster club, and I am a member of Kiwanis Club of Rock Hill.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My journey has been bitter sweet. From leaving the only life I knew and all my family and friends to chase my dream, from homelessness to now a homeowner, from poverty to now financially stability (although I wouldn’t say no to a higher tax bracket). Amidst all this, I don’t believe I would change anything because it is my struggles that taught me compassion, it is poverty that taught me priority and its heartache that help taught me resilience.
One thing I will say is that one struggle that has stayed with me, is balance. Balance between how much I can, how much I can’t and how much I shouldn’t give.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Business Analyst, who specializes in business process improvement. I am known among my colleagues and superiors for my ability to identify inefficiencies and coordinating and executing change. One a day to day, I work to analyze current processes, document recommendations and communicating these recommendations. From here, I facilitate the necessary workshops and conversations that ultimately lead to change executions.
I am most proud of my professional growth. I started with a plan when I was an Administrative Assistant of the trajectory of my professional career. Once my goal was set, I took strategic steps to achieve my goal of landing my dream role as a Business Analyst.
What sets me apart from other Business Analysts is my passion. My passion and love for my job drives me to, everyday, excel in new ways.
Any big plans?
My plans for the future is career progression. I am working on creating my next goal and identifying the strategic steps I need to take to achieve it. I am also planning on broadening and strengthening my network. I believe in the power of people and I have proven this true over the course of my life. I want to align myself with people who positively contribute to my growth in all aspects, and those I can also be of service to.
The biggest plan I would say I am looking forward to is the growth of my nonprofit, Beyond a Dream, Inc. I have plans of implementing some initiatives and solidifying partnerships in the current year, and I am very excited to see those come to fruition. Seeing the impact of my work through my nonprofit is easily my lifetime goal.
